Meanderings on the Massive Change Among Us

On Google Plus tonight, I asked a question : Companies battle to be where we connect. It is fascinating to see how fast Google+ has grown and yet I still wonder if it is meaningful. Are you using Google+ content? How often do you Google+? Do you use this and Twitter ? I'd like to hear from those using it consistently so I can understand (and perhaps blog about it.) If you reply, make sure it is OK for me to quote you. Thank you. I was quite shocked at how quickly I've got over 2000 followers over there and comparing how long it took me to get there on Twitter. I think perhaps it is because Twitter was built from scratch but Google+ was built on the back of existing networks through Google Docs , email, etc. Certainly Google is to be commended for their growth. But there was a fascinating comment in the thread that had me thinking: Kristofer Gigante  says " I never used FB or Twitter so because of that, I only check G+ and I check it multiple times a day. I...

I love to see how others have their iPads laid out. I actually have my iPhone and iPad with prominent apps in the same places so I never have to hunt. Here are my screens and notes about current rationale for how I organize things. Even if you have a Droid or something else, the apps and the concepts may help you as you decide how you're going to organize things. Your 5 Important Electronic Desktop Decisions Having an organized, productive workspace is important. You have 5 very important electronic desktop decisions that can have a big impact on your life and your focus: Your computer desktop Your browser start screen and toolbars (I use firefox browser sync and a custom igoogle page.) Your mobile phone start screen Your tablet device start screen Your media diet (thanks Mark Hurst - author of Bit Literacy: Productivity in the Age of Information and E-mail Overload for this one.) Maide Control This app lets you control cad and 3d environments like Google Sketchup. Really, the Ipad is now an interface with your regular computer and it is only beginning. The Maide video is definitely worth a watch and if you do anything with 3D design or CAD, this is worth a look. tags: education cad graphic design govt_business wireless_connectivity workflow_software Björk: Biophilia for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store Bjork releases an album along with 3D images in an app for the ipad. Education's 3200 Error

Sickness is everywhere. In my house. In our schools. Sitting here at 6:42 am in the morning, I am in my comfy chair for a brief moment at the start of my day about to head a school after another night with a sick child. The worst has past and she should sleep comfortably through the day with her bottle of Gatorade nearby. I know because she is the fourth of the five of us to have this same virus. (I'm the only one left standing but as the nurse, I have to admit I'm completely worn out.) Last Wednesday afternoon my iphone got sick. It would not update to iOS5. I was getting Error 3200 (like many other hundreds of thousands of people, it seems.) I got on Twitter and eventually got onto some reputable blogs to determine that this error that no one had ever seen before was due to lack of capacity on Apple's servers. Last Monday and Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of Blackberry Messenger (BBM) customers around the world, primarily non US, could not use their...

Do we really want a lifeline of all our time?

Petrified. Do I really want my entire life online? A friend started posting college pics on Facebook. (this is one of them- can you pick me out? Polka dots!) If you are filled with dread at the thought: what happens to today's students when they mature and realize what they've done. Are we making it so no one can change? If I had to go off to college with the stereotypes of high school hanging over my head it would have been horrible. Who gets a fresh start any more? Is it even possible? Will people need to change their names to start over? Just looking at this photo of friends enjoying our time together and I am glad to see it. But I still wonder about these questions.
