marvingolden: CoolCat Teacher My new friend Marvin Golden is the operations manager for my internet company, CNS, a consortium of small towns in south Georgia that banded together to provide high speed to their residents (at a cost) but yet, it is here and great. Without CNS, I wouldn't be cool Cat because I wouldn't be on the Internet!! Before CNS, we were lucky to be able to do anything and the big companies didn't see fit to put us on the Internet. Well, Marvin found us on youtube and twitter - which is amazing because he is only 30 miles down the road and now he's blogging. I hope you'll welcome him to the blogosphere and if you administer large networks, routers, or are in IT, he's someone you'll want to connect with and encourage as he is very good at what he does and a huge fan of education and what we do to empower ALL students with technology. Marvin shared with me that without assistive technology to augment his sight he would not be able to be e...

If you are using wikis in K-6, please respond!

Image
As a favor to my friend, Dr. Curtis Bonk, from Indiana State University , if you are in k-6 and using wikis, please take time to fill out this survey.  (It uses surveyshare , which BTW is my FAVORITE tool for such research.) "A research team from Ohio University and Indiana University is conducting a study of the use of wikis in the classroom by early childhood and elementary teachers and would love those of you using wikis in these age groups to help. If you are, their online survey is at: http://surveyshare.com/survey/ take/respond.php?page=0&rid= 1014200&sid=84823 Those taking the survey will be entered in a drawing for a free iPod nano . Anyone volunteering to be interviewed about their experiences will be entered into a second drawing. The survey will take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. When you enter the survey site, you will first be asked to initial and date a consent form to indicate that you agree to participate in the study. If you have any questions...

Telex - Education Headsets & Listening Stations I've heard through the twitter-vine that these $65-75 headsets are totally indestructable. I will be trying 1-2 in this order, although I'm not quite coughing it up for my lab. I've had several people tweet me that these are the last headsets I'll ever need. I'm going to run a test and then will let you know if it is true. If you agree or have another headset you love, please let me know! tags : education , learning , hardware Posted from Diigo . Kyle "G"'s blog about ReactionGrid & the Metaverse Kyle writes about his netgened post mortem - what happened and his thoughts. Here are my thoughts to him: "As someone said tonight about mountain biking "if you don't crash, you're not doing it right." I think that students are a totally different avatar than anything seen in SL to date because they like to customize. Their behaviors are so different and we also had so many different time zones -- kids in australia were logging in at midnight, etc. So, there was no teacher to "coach" them on what to do. For me, we got a great audio feed from it. We did get some machinima - we learned to stream, run presentation boards, etc. Tonight I was in Second Life for an ISTE presentation and the audience was pretty much experts, many of whom I knew. As we bring students in en masse as we did yesterday, they aren't really "noobs" per se because they are comfortable with the techn...

Dismissing the immoral teacher for conduct outside the workplace--do current laws protect the interests of both school authorities and teachers? | Society, Social Assistance & Lifestyle > Families & Children from AllBusiness.com From Scott McLeod - an article that he says he does not agree with, but does state that this is the current law as it pertains to teacher behavior outside school. tags : education , learning , ad4dcss , case_studies YouTube - Act One: YouTube Symphony Orchestra @ Carnegie Hall Enjoyed watching the Youtube Symphony Orchestra - act 1. These were made in one of my favorite software programs called Timeliner. Timeliner is GREAT for the research because it completely cites all sources and aids in clipping from the internet. From planning and prewriting to creating graphic organizers - it is a great tool you should lo...
