All About SOPA, the Bill That Wants to Cripple Your Internet This is an issue we should be studying, talking about, and weighing in on. With the blocking that this proposes, say that you claim fair use, that may not matter - you may be blocked for using copyrighted material, period... no matter whether you have fair use claims or not., the way I understand it. Looking for some more good information on SOPA. Please share. "SOPA, or the Stop Online Piracy Act, is another one of those bills that sounds like it's going to do something mildly positive but, in reality, has serious potential to negatively change the internet as we know it. It puts power in the hands of the entertainment industry to censor sites that allegedly "engage in, enable or facilitate" copyright infringement. This language vague enough to encompass sites you use every day, like Twitter and Facebook, making SOPA a serious problem" ta...

Simple Online Presenting

Online presentations are a totally different genre than face to face. When I go in a room to hear a presentation and the first 20 minutes is muffed up with scuffles, guffaws, and wrestling with the online room it makes me angry.  With Flat Classroom and NetGen we take students in online classrooms all the time and it can be done. Sure, students "misbehave" and there are things you have to do to teach them to be successful online. This presentation is the result of the last 5 years of online presenting. I'm certainly not perfect and am still learning but here is what I have to share. I shared this at #globaled11 going on this week! Great conference. See the other presentations happening this week . (Julie and I are presenting about Flat Classroom Friday morning at 6 am Eastern - I shared the calendars with links in an earlier post .) Turn Me to We: Get Along, Work Together, Protect Kids from Adult Arguments

Image
Image via Wikipedia True organizational greatness is about turning Me into We. It is sad when you see a team take their eye of their goal and turn upon each other. When you're busy fighting each other, you lose sight of the main mission and cannot achieve it. We human beings can only handle so much. We are finite in our ability to process and finite in our ability to mete out self control. When we are under attack, we use all of our resources to fight or flight even if that attack is from those who are supposed to be on our own team. Friendly Fire Kills Cooperation This "friendly fire" comes from out of the blue often from those who are supposed to be our rear guard. From those who are supposed to be watching out for us. We think we have the same mission and goal but then somehow we've become so factioned that our goal is no longer the "we" of working together towards a common mission but the "me" of self preservation. This is a sad state to b...
