Daily Education & Technology News for Schools 07/18/2010

  • I've made a facebook page for the readers of my blog. This will be different. It will have small daily challenges for using technology or improving your life that will go into your facebook. You don't have to friend me - just "like" the page and you can converse and share.

Just trying to separate out my "personal" life on facebook with professional and I suggest all teachers and bloggers do this as it will simplify things.

  • Great article my husband, Kip, sent me discussing "thinking across silos" or out of discipline. Truly, in education we must do this with IT learning to think like curriculum, admin, and teachers and vice versa. We must all think outside our position in order to succeed in an increasingly complex world.

I love the quote: "the real solution should be to 'train leaders who remove silos." aptly said

    • And we're training leaders to think across silos.
    • The real solution should be to "train leaders who remove silos" and connect people in customer-focused processes.
    • Creating leaders who truly think and act across silos requires addressing the cultural root causes of silo thinking.
  • Just learned about a new tool www.spruz.com - I know NOTHING about it, only that it seems to have a watered-down NIng-like environment and cynthia invited me to join. I'll let you know after I play with it what I think.

  • Due to copyright infringement many sites are now "history" and perhaps even the Wayback machine won't bring them back. TVshack, Movies links, files pump, ninjavideo and a word press host that hosted 73,000 blogs. Poof! Gone.

Copyright is serious business. We all have to be wise about what we do with copyrighted material.

    • Operation In Our Sites‘ targeted several sites including TVShack.net, Movies-Links.TV, FilesPump.com, Now-Movies.com, PlanetMoviez.com, ThePirateCity.org, ZML.com, NinjaVideo.net and NinjaThis.net. In almost unprecedented action, the domain names of 7 sites were seized and indications are that others – The Pirate Bay and MegaUpload – narrowly avoided the same fate.
  • Some people love the iPad while others don't. Read this reflection to get the full picture.
