How to search Google Educational Videos
Friday, October 06, 2006

As I was uploading a video I made today about how to use skype in the classroom, I came across an amazing trick for finding educational videos on google Video.

1 - Go to Google Video - http://video.google.com
2- In the search box, type: genre:educational
3 - Follow it with anything you want to find video for.

eg. I typed genre:educational computer science

You can type genre:educational chemistry ( just follow my hyperlink) and there are some AMAZING chemistry videos from college professors. Talk about showing students what college will be like, how about letting them hear a lecture from a college prof, maybe they'll appreciate you for a change!

    Vicki,
The information that you gave on using Skype in the classroom was great! I have been wanting to do Skype calls in my classroom. The videos were clear and informative. After watching those videos I watched a video from Westwood schools called Virus MOnkey. Good student work. This is a fantastic time to be a teacher!

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post something as simple as how to find educational videos on Google. As a new person to Web 2.0 I always appreciate these pointers.

    Hi,
Google is definitely improving its search videos for finding educational video.

A new site which is worth looking at is www.edutube.org which allows you to find the best educational videos from various sites, such as Google Video, YouTube, etc. Aside from searching videos from different sites, EduTube has a better search for finding educational videos, e.g. you can search by category (Chemistry, Biology), type of video (lecture, demonstration), etc.
